Fleet Racing?
Fleet racing takes place on weekends and is depended on volunteer support. We have club boats which are used to support racing but we need volunteers to staff them. To run our races safely and successfully, we need support for the following:
Race Committee Boat: 2-3 people
Mark/Patrol Boat: 2 people
Mark/Patrol Boat: 2 people
New to race support?
No problem! We hold a Patrol and Rescue course every year for those new to sailboat race support or anyone looking for a refresher. This year’s course will be held on June 28. Please contact Peter Vehslage, Brain Dolan or myself for more information. Even if you don’t complete this course, you can still support fleet racing. Signup and we’ll pair you with an experienced crew for some on the job training.
Interested in learning to sail?
Sea Class is for you! Come out and get hands on instruction on a Sunfish or Wave. All you need is a life jacket. Classes are held from 9am and 11am on Sundays, see the sailing calendar on our website. Enjoy a morning of sailing instruction, then stick around to volunteer on a support boat for a front row seat to the racing action. There is no better way to witness the excitement of sailboat racing.
SBYC provides club Sunfish sailboats and a Hobie Wave catamaran for member use. Members volunteer to help other members learn how to sail. It is a great opportunity for adults to learn how to sail in a calm and nurturing environment. Sea Class sailors often move up in abilities and participate in the weekly Sunfish racing classes.
Starting Sunday, June 21st 9:00 AM on Sunfish Beach and continuing through the summer on Sundays at 9:00 AM.
Sea-Class Sailing instruction has no sign-up, thank you to all the volunteers who turn up Sundays to make sailing instruction happen at SBYC!
Catboat Tuesday?
Our Catboat fleet meet on Tuesday evenings at 5:00 PM on the wharf. These gaff-rigged, shallow-draft boats are famous for their wide beam beautiful lines. Come join us for an introduction to these boats and a short evening sail followed by a post-sail gathering. For more information visit the Catboat page on our website, contact any captain and join the Catboat Blog.
Catboat Tuesdays provides additional opportunities for members to experience sailing on beautiful Barnegat Bay -
Catboats.
See you on the water!
