Spray Beach Yacht Club began as a sailing club and is committed to continuing that tradition. The Junior Sailing Program is designed to teach our youths the skills needed to sail casually and competitively in a fun and safe environment.
All sailing classes are available for junior members of SBYC. Our full-time weekday sailing program is also available to youths whose families are not members of SBYC. Non-club member sailors are called “Summer Juniors”. To find out more about this opportunity please contact SBYC at (609)492-6845.
All sailing activities are conducted under the supervision of our Sailing Director and Junior Sailing Instructors. Our Sailing Director, Parry Barclay, is a world class sailor, a past Optimist National Team coach, coach trainer and a middle school teacher. Our Junior Sailing Instructors are local sailors who have mastered sailing skills and developed a passion for the sport. Our full time instructors are trained and certified by U.S. Sailing and is also certified in first aid and CPR.
The sailing program consists of two four-week sessions. Sailors may sign up for a four-week session only, or for both sessions at a reduced fee. Lessons may include classroom instruction, outdoor land-based instruction, physical conditioning for older sailors and time on the water. Lessons will focus on safety and learning the basics correctly from the start. Instruction may include drills or fun games designed to demonstrate nautical skills. Classes meet rain or shine.
